Mariachi Quinto Sol is a six-piece ensemble made up of three male and three female musicians. They enjoy combining classic Spanish and English songs with their own approach to create a unique musical experience.
Although this band, as you see it now, has only been together for 5 years, and only 1 year with this new concept; this new project, Roberto Diaz, it’s founder, is not new to this industry, in 2014, he founded his first band; then known as “Mariachi Rey Azteca.” They were bringing fun, joy and outstanding musicianship to households and local venues alike. But In 2017, Roberto began searching for new styles, new sounds and the possibility of fusing them with the style of mariachi. He started to feel the need to refresh his group; to bring freshness to his style of music. That sentiment led him to explore other genres and to connect with musicians of other genres as well. After a couple of years scouting talent and conducting auditions, he is re-connected with Elias Rodriguez-Quiroz, who is MQS’s current trumpet player ; a perfectionist, talented, dedicated musician and arranger. As a fun fact: Elias and Roberto had previously met in early 2018 at the Nice Carnival in France where both of them along with
many other musicians from the US and Mexico, were invited by the Mexican Embassy, to participate in such said carnival.
When they both met for the second time here in Los Angeles, Roberto invited Elias to join Mariachi Quinto Sol because they both seemed to have the same vision for the band and the same passion for music; Roberto welcomed him aboard in 2019. Shall we take a look at the
other members of this genuine and charismatic band now? We will begin with a brief introduction of them: Omar is the band’s guitarist and he’s also Roberto’s brother. He joined MQS in 2018, he also tells us he has been playing guitar since he was about 12 years old. Omar Diaz, is described by his fellow group musicians as a kind, nice, quiet guy. Moving to three beautiful young ladies who have joined the band within the last 18 months; the
first two are Krystal Sanchez and Nicole Lillingston, they are the band’s violinists. They have been playing and singing since they were little girls. Krystal, before joining Mariachi Quinto Sol, was gigging with other bands in different genres, but her love for Mariachi music was inherited
by her grandfather who she is grateful to for enrolling her and taking her to Mariachi violin classes and auditions , when she was a little girl Krystal has a bubbly, sparkly personality. Nicole is the youngest of the band at only 16 years of age. She alike Krystal has been playing
music since she was in elementary. She enjoys performing and growing up, she looked up to “Lola Beltran,” and “Linda Ronstadt. Nicole is the shy one but wow! She has a powerful voice! Then there’s the band’s 3rd beautiful young lady, Jessica Ulloa “Jessie”. She is a fabulous upright bass player and guitarronista for Mariachi Quinto Sol. She’s pursuing a teaching career in music and is currently at UCLB. She’s described by her fellow musicians in the band as a fun, disciplined, talented musician. Mariachi Quinto Sol has 2 singles recorded, Tennessee Whiskey and Mi Historia Entre Tus Dedos, which are out on every platform across the globe. Their 3rd single “ TUYO,” is a cover to the theme song of Narcos, the series on Netflix, which will be out this Friday, June 17th. Don’t miss out on listening to this fabulous band! If you’re in Los Angeles, don’t miss their performance at the Historic “The Mint,” they will be performing on Saturday July 9th at 8:00 p.m. What a treat will it be to listen to them play all their great hits Live! “Valerie,” “Tennessee whiskey,” ” Tuyo,” (song arranged in MQS’s style by Elias Rodriguez-Quiroz) and many more!
