Our awareness of our physical body and the muscles that are essential for leading a life with less muscle pain can often be very limited. Most people are not aware that the Quadratus Lumborum (QL) is a deep low back muscle that is one of the most common muscles to get tensed up and cause pain throughout the lower back.

But why is it that the QL gets tensed up so often?

The reason that this particular muscle is such a common cause of back pain is that its main function is to stabilize the spine. Even when you are sitting, it will be your Quadratus Lumborum that will help you maintain your upright position and it will also be the muscle that you use to bend from side to side. When you are exercising its function becomes even more important as it also helps maintain the correct orientation for your pelvis. As a result, both those with a very active lifestyle and those leading a more sedentary life will often suffer from QL pain.

What is even more peculiar is that certain mindless habits can actually cause even more stress on your QL muscle. These pain triggers can include having your wallet or a heavy item in one of your pockets, carrying a heavy bag or suitcase, or lifting objects that are far heavier than what you should be lifting.

All of these pain triggers can lead to lower back pain that with years can become more painful as the tension in the QL muscle is left untreated.

The positive thing though is that there are easy ways and things that you can incorporate in your daily life to help treat the QL muscle pain that you may be feeling. These include pressure release massages, strengthening exercises, and stretching.

For more effective QL muscle pain release you will also need to use a tool that specifically targets the Quadratus Lumborum muscle. The best of these tools is the QL Claw which has a smart design that allows it to target this deep muscle through different exercises and massaging movements. What makes this a great tool is that you can use it on your own, which is quite rare as in general the lower back is a hard area to access. Still, with its exceptional design, it manages to target even the deeper muscles and provide long-lasting relief to those who use it. For more information, you can check out the official QL Claw website for specific exercises that can help improve your life.
